Clergyman from Licolnshire who emigrated to Taranaki with his large family in 1859. They settled at `Brookfield', half a mile from Omata. On 30 March 1860 the Brown family fled from a Maori attack, the daughters and young boys to be billeted with the Hobhouse family while the older sons fought with the local militia. The stained glass windows in the apse commemorate Sir Harry Atkinson (left) who died in 1892, and the Revd H H Brown who died Sep 1893. The `stars' suggest the decorations were for Christmas. In 1893 the east wall was extended to form an apse and in 1898 the marble reredos was introduced behind the altar.
