Niland, Ruth Park, 1917-2010, Park, Ruth Lucia, 1917-2010

Australian novelist. Started as proof reader for the Auckland star in 1937, became children's editor 1939 and general reporter 1941. Married D'Arcy Francis Niland, Australian radio dramatist, 1942. Published Harp of the south, 1947, winning the Sydney Morning Herald prize. Also wrote Poor man's orange, The Witch's thorn, A Power of roses, Pink flannel, The Golden boomerang, One-a-pecker-two-a-pecker, The Good looking woman, and several children's books and plays (Encylcopaedia of New Zealand Vol 1 p 576)
