Niagara RMS (Ship : 1912-1940)

Passenger ship used by the Union Steam Ship Company on the Trans-Pacific service. Launched on 17 Aug 1912 at Clydebank, Scotland. Sunk on June 19, 1940 by a mine off Bream Head, on a passage from Auckland to Suva and Vancouver. There was no loss of life. On board were 590 bars of gold owned by the Bank of England and destined for the United States for the purchase of British arms.
