Daughter of Walter Pearse and great granddaughter of solicitor and artist John Pearse (1808-1886). Born and resident in Paris where she died, about 1985, aged over 80. Sold John Pearse's scrapbook of New Zealand and related papers to the Alexander Turnbull Library in 1970. (Information from her cousin, Malcolm Fare, during a visit, 2 February 2004)

Description: Shows Maori rangatira standing with white hair, moko, feather cloak, and a greenstone mere in his right hand. The long tunic beneath his cloak has a decorated hem. The chief was dead by 1856, so Barraud must have made this copy from one of his earlier portraits, based on a painting of 1853, now in the British Library (see E-144-060). Quantity: 1 watercolour(s).
