Description: Lot description from Spink Auction House: "1837 (25 May) entire letter written by Thomas Ridout, acting Captain of the whaler Harriet, addressed to London. [...] Probably carried on the Pusey Hall. [...] A rare whaler's letter. The Harriet was wrecked in Fiji on Dec.16th 1837". Refers to Ridout's appointment to Captain after his predecessor was injured, the quality of sperm oil and whale oil, and staffing problems. Item includes transcription. Title supplied by Library.
