Date: 1979-1993

By: Asia Pacific Festival and Composers' Conference

Reference: MS-Group-0149

Description: Includes records of the 1984 Festival, various music scores of works by NZ composers (1988-92), records of the 1992 Festival which include the Artistic Director's and other management papers: correspondence, financial records, ephemera, and many subject files including those on programming, accommodation and venues, travel, and various groups and artists. Part of the Archive of New Zealand Music Arrangement: Accession 93-264 has been foldered but remains unsorted, although child records have been created. This accession contains many subject and other files, the integrity of these has been preserved as far as possible. Some materials originally in binders have been split up into sequential folders. There is correspondence in most files so it is important to consider this as well as using those files named `correspondence'. Files named `Miscellaneous' include all types of materials, including correspondence. It appears that several files were committee members' working files so contain mixed materials. The first Asia Pacific Festival was held in 1984 and introduced to New Zealand audiences musicians, dancers and scholars from many Asian and Pacific countries combined with New Zealand groups and individuals. The 1992 festival was held in Wellington, 26 Nov-4 Dec, and in Auckland, 29 Nov -6 Dec. Artistic Director, Jack Body, organised this `celebration of contemporary and traditional arts', which celebrates New Zealand's unique place in this distinctive community of nations'. This festival featured music, theatre, dance, martial arts, and a conference. Quantity: 135 folder(s). 1.40 Linear Metres. Physical Description: Holographs, ms, typescripts (many faxes), printed matter Finding Aids: Preliminary list available.
