Description: The papers consist of: Application form submitted by Nora Elizabeth Kenworthy-Thompson; original land grant to John McBeth; verification when farm was passed to Murdoch McBeth, and later to Nora Kenworthy-Thompson; line of ownership, 1860-2005; narrative of family history and family pedigree (5 generational chart); photographs John McBeth and his wife Ann came to New Zealand from Nova Scotia with Ann's father Murdoch Mclennan. They were granted 160 acres of land at Kauri, Northland in 1867. He broke in the land and in 1874 built a homestead on the property. John grew vegetables on the land and over time acquired a small dairy herd. On his death in 1900 the farm was taken over by his son Murdoch and then by his daughter Nora who married Ralph Kenworthy-Thompson. See also Burtenshaw, May. From castle to cave.
