Short story writer, novelist, and teacher. Descendant of Danish families who settled in the Manawatu in the late 19th century: Du Fresne's grandmother Anna Clausen was six months old when her family left their village of Egvad in Schlesvig-Holstein in 1876. Her grandfather Abraham du Fresne belonged to a Huguenot family who left Fredericia in Jutland in 1890. Yvonne du Fresne was born in Takaka, but was raised in the Manawatu, and her writing strongly reflects her Danish heritage.
