Was an influential chief of the Uritaniwha hapu of Aupouri and of Ngapuhi. Was elected to represent Northern Maori in Parliament 1871 and was a member of the executive. He was defeated by Tawhiti and Te Tai in 1875. Again elected in 1887 but defeated shortly afterwards in the general election. He died on 1st Nov 1895.
