Description: Cadastral map, with some topographical features, showing Taparahi No. 1, No. 2 and a portion of No. 3 land blocks in the Thames and Tairua regions of the Coromandel Peninsular. Taparahi No. 2 and 3 are further divided into Taparahi No. 2A consisting of 984 acres, Taparahi No. 3A, 574 acres, Taparahi No. 3B, 40 acres and Taparahi No. 3C being 1715 acres, 3 roods and 13 perches. The area of Taparahi No. 1 is shown as 3098 acres, Taparahi No. 2 as 3280 acres and Taparahi No. 3 as 2330 acres. Land blocks surrounding the three Taparahi blocks are named as Hihi and Piraunui, Puke[tui], Pakirarahi No. 2, Ruapekapeka, Owhataroa No. 1 and Ipuwhakatara. Topographical features indicating bushland, rivers or streams are shown in black ink. Red ink lines, suggesting boundary limits between the blocks are also shown. Description: Monograph is comprised of seventy-nine sermons pertaining to the Annunciation, Advent, Christmas, and then proceed through late December and early January with St Stephen, St John, the Holy Innocents, the Circumcision, Epiphany, Sundays after Christmas, Purification, and then to the movable feasts dependent on Easter: Septuagesima, Sexagesima, Quinquagesima, and Lent. Among this latter group are moral expositions, exhortations to penitence, and sermons concerning Old Testament figures such as Noah, Abraham, Isaiah, Esau, Isaac, and Susannah. The text then jumps to the Sundays after Trinity Sunday (f.40), and then to the feasts of SS. Peter and Paul, the Assumption, and St John; and for Angels, All Saints, Confessors, and Virgins; the volume ends with three sermons for the dedication of a church. Title supplied by Library. Quantity: 1 volume(s) 6 paper leaves, 67 vellum leaves. Physical Description: Bound manuscript, title 'XXXVI JNC-SE PER AN MS' in glit on spine with blue, brown and red ink on vellum, 255 x 175mm. Provenance: Previously sold by Christies, London, to a private New Zealand based collector in November 2008. Christies catalogue provenance states, ‘Perhaps from the Dominican convent of San Domenico, Gaeta [Italy]’. It was also once owned by the Hispanic Society of America from which it was deaccessioned.

Description: Papers relating to Henry Stowell, including correspondence, research notes, draft articles, whakapapa, waiata, photographs, and clippings. Also the cardboard folio that these papers were kept in. - A letter from H E Partridge to Henry Stowell, dated 8 June 1905, relating to an enquiry about moko. Partridge includes a copy of a letter that he had received from S Stuart, and a pencil sketch that had accompanied Stuart's letter. The drawing is of a Māori man's head, with moko on his face. The sketch is allegedly 'Te Kuku' who Stuart says was killed by Captain Cook's men during his first encounter with Maori at Poverty Bay, in 1769. - A letter, dated 13 December 1938, from Dunbar Sloane relating to a stone patu that Henry Stowell had sent to them for sale, which was (according to Stowell) of Moriori origin. - A letter from the Public Trust Office in New Plymouth to Olive Townsend, relating to the estate of her mother, Mary Rachel Stowell (Henry Stowell's wife). - Two photographic prints of waterfalls in the Bay of Islands, and a newspaper cutting featuring one of the waterfalls (clipping is dated 2 July 1932). - A typescript of an article about the Maori language, including structure and numeration. - Whakapapa relating to Ngapuhi, Ngati Kahungunu, Ngati Ruanui and Nga Rauru. - A pamphlet for Tales of the Maori Coast by James Cowan. - A photograph of Henry Stowell circa late 1930s to early 1940s. - Waiata, including a lament 'of a forsaken bride' He tangi na te wahine ki te tane (in Māori with an English translation handwritten next to the Māori text).
