Plischke, Ernst Anton, 1903-1992

Architect. Born in Vienna. Emigrated to NZ 1939. Husband of Anna (formerly Lang, née Schwitzer; 1895-1983). Worked in the Housing Corporation on Government State Housing projects; also had private practice. Designed many prominent buildings and residences in Wellington (Massey House, Lambton Quay; Dixon Street Flats (with Gordon Wilson); Sutch house, Brooklyn; Lang house, Karori; Khan house, Ngaio; Cashmere Avenue School Community Hall (demolished 2001); 39 Cheviot Road, Lowry Bay). Returned to Austria to become professor in architecture 1968. While in New Zealand, he spelled his name as Plishke; his partnership with Cedric Firth was in the name of Plishke and Firth.

Description: Photographs showing all the stages of construction of Massey House, from a view of the site (undated), photographs beginning on 4th February 1955, finishing in October 1957, exterior only.
