Hutana, Ihaia, 1843?-1938

Ngati Kahungunu leader, newspaper editor, assessor. Born at Poroutawhao, near Otaki, probably in 1843 or 1844. Ihaia Hutana lived in the Central Hawkes Bay area, and worked as a secretary to Henare Tomoana for a time; he was also involved with the Kotahitanga movement, and was the editor of the newspaper Huia Tangata Kotahi; see DNZB (Vol 2, 1870-1900, p237-238)
