Expatriate journalist, writer, civil servant and television executive. Educated at University of Otago and Oxford (as a Rhodes Scholar); foreign and war correspondent for News Chronicle and Daily Express 1935-1940; first secretary of the New Zealand Legation at Washington 1942-1944; served with 2NZEF as Chief Intelligence Officer to General Freyberg. Political correspondent and assistant editor for the News Chronicle 1945-1956; editor of ITN News 1956-1968, and chairman of local British TV companies 1968-1982.
