Mantell, Walter Godfrey, 1864-1927

Dentist, resident in Wellington; Only child of Walter Baldock Durrant Mantell (legitimised in 1894). W G Mantell's Lodge was located 111 Sydney Street West (56 Bowen Street), Thornon, Wellington. His widow (Catherine Louise Marguerite née Bucholy) donated the Mantell Collection to the Library in 1927.

Photographer unidentified. The first church on the site was built in 1851. The second, with a tower and spire was built in 1867. Between 1880 and 1885 the spire was removed and the tower redesigned but it burned down in 1898. The Basilica of the Sacred Heart is the third building on the site.
