Bellairs, Edmund Hooke Wilson, 1823-1896

British Army officer and Legislative Councillor. Came to New Zealand in 1852, and in 1854 accompanied W D B Mantell to pay off the Maori owners of the Murihiku Block, where he took up land at Waimahaka. Was appointed to the Legislative Council in 1853, where he took a prominent part in the constitutional debates in 1854. Returned to England ca 1855. See DNZB / Scholefield (Vol 1, p64)
