Inside front cover shows a calendar for the last part of 1915, and January-September 1916. Description: Mrs R L Taylor recalls her days as a bride when she had to learn to cook in a camp oven as her husband lived in a 'whare' three miles from the farm where he worked. Mrs Gillbanks from the Wairarapa reminds us that there were no special recipes for cooking in a camp oven - anything that could be cooked in a normal oven could be cooked in a camp oven. Mrs Madeline Humphrey was nine years when she fell in love with a camp oven in their bach in the Bay of Plenty but now her romance with camp ovens is over - its a monument to the emancipation of colonial women from grilled faces and cremated meals.
