Formed on 19 October 1869 as an affiliate of the New Zealand Institute. In 1874 Captain F W Hutton was appointed secretary of the Institute. In 1880 Thomas Jeffrey Parker succeeded Hutton. In 1934 renamed the Otago Branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand.
