Kennedy, Alexander McKenzie, -1897

Banker. Born in Scotland, came to New Zealand from Sydney in the 'Nimrod' (1839) as manager of the Banking Company established at Bay of Islands, later managed the Auckland branch. Purchased Puke Tapapa cone and named it Mt Roskill in 1845. Married Elizabeth Sairs, who arrived in Auckland in Oct 1842 on the 'Duchess of Argyle'. (Dictionary of New Zealand Biography / Scholefield Volume 1 p 460.) Brother of John Kennedy (d 1843). Notes of the Kennedy family in MS-Papers-0230-008 (NZ Dept Internal Affairs. Historical Atlas).
