Description: Comprises detailed diary of farming near Waipara, with visits to Christchurch 1866-1867; followed by notes on tobacco farming, and then a partial diary of his experiences on the Parana River, in either Paraguay or Argentina 1872; the back of the diary includes personal accounts and details of expenditure, and details of runs that he scored from various cricket matches. Source of title - Supplied Powys arrived in Canterbury on the Mermaid in 1866 and farmed near Waipara; at some time after 1867, he may have tried tobacco farming, and in 1872 he was on the Parana River, in either Argentina or Paraguay, apparently as manager of an organized settlement in that region.
