Description: Letters written by Eric McCormick to Campbell. The letters covering the period 1926-1930 were written from Taihape, Nelson and Wellington and mainly comment on McCormick's current reading and literary matters. The letters covering the period 1931-1933 relate to the period McCormick spent as a student at Cambridge University. They contain an account of his voyage to England aboard the `Oronsay', including his impressions of Sydney, life as a student, his reactions to England and Europe as well as comments on literary topics, including Katherine Mansfield and the progress of his thesis on New Zealand literature. The letters covering the period 1935-1936 were written while McCormick was living in Dunedin and contain comments about the Hocken Library, the possibility of becoming involved in a survey of library services in Taranaki and the setting up of a national library. The two letters dated 1941 were written from Cairo where McCormick was serving with the Public relations Service of the 2NZEF and contain his impressions of Egypt, comments on Campbell's book, `Educating New Zealand', published in 1941 and information about his plans to return to New Zealand to help establish a New Zealand archive when circumstances permitted.
