Description: Anna Dierk's diary is a detailed account of her life as an elder daughter in a household of fourteen children and as a missionary's wife. Written in German Gothic text the diary was translated into English by her son, Theo Dierks. Joachim Mattner compared this English translation with the original German text and noted alterations which he felt were accurate translations of the original. The text which appears here is a typescript copy of Theo Dierk's English translation with Mattner's annotation inserted into the text in square brackets. It is accompanied by a note by the donor explaining the background to, and providing a summary of, Mattner's annotations. Pastor Heine's recollections were written in 1884 at the request of his family and contain an account of his ancestory and childhood.
