Description: The essay is based on the inquest of Catherine Campbell Horton who drowned in the Reefton Electric Power Company water-race on 3 Jul 1891. It traces her life from her childhood in Scotland, her marriage to John Joshua Horton and its breakup, the effect on her and the couple's children and the circumstances at the time of her death. It also details her husband's background prior to coming to New Zealand.
