Description: Photograph album created by Neville H Mosen of Raetithi. Contains views related to trips taken by the Tongariro Tramping Club and views related to the Mosen family and friends. Taken by Neville Mosen circa 1936 to 1937, and possibly some taken by other unidentified photographer(s). Contains scenic views and views of the Club members on bush walks and skiing in Tongariro National Park, featuring Ruapehu, Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and surrounding environs, the Pinnacles at Blue Bluffs, Ruapehu crater lake, Tama Lakes, The Chateau, Whakapapa glacier, Karioi Lakes, Mangawhero River and various tramping huts. Bruce Davis, an amateur photographer who lived in Raetihi is identified. Also includes views of Raetihi township and Horopito locality, Napier, Tauranga (rail bridge and The Strand), and Ngauruhoe erupting (possibly 1937 eruption). Also includes views of Tom Parker posing with the fountain he gifted to Napier in 1936 and scenes of a parade and bonfire in Raetihi to mark the coronation of King George VI in 1937. Also includes the wedding of Gwen Wise (circa 1930s) 5 loose prints have page numbers noted and are in an envelope at the front of the album. Includes people skiing, swimming and tramping. Many are larger duplicates of views contained in PA1-o-1868. Features snowy Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, Tama Lakes, tramping club members, clouds, rivers and waterfalls (possibly Huka Falls), The Chateau, Whanganui River, the 'Wanganella' at Castlecliff and the view from Mangaiti hut. Also features views of Raetihi and the Mosen family and friends. Including Walter Verdun Mosen in uniform with his mother Dora Lilian, Mosen family (Neville, Jean, Hazel, Pearl, Walter, Rosie, and Esme) and Brian Mosen as child with his mother Vera Ward. Also includes views of the 1939-1940 Centennial Exhibition in Wellington, Tauranga, pig hunting on a local farm and Neville Mosen wrestling. 3 loose prints have page numbers noted and are place in envelope at the front of album. Description: Photographs, mainly of Tongariro Tramping Club and Mosen family tramping trips, either taken or collected by Neville Mosen, from 1932 to the 1970s. Also includes some photographs of scenery in the Ruapehu District, including a mounted photograph of Rangataua Lakes and Mount Ruapehu. Includes images from a Tramping Club trip to Rotorua; views of several tramping huts, including Parawai Tramping Club about to repair Mangaiti Hut; Brian Mosen with "his first and last deer shot". Some photographs have been hand-coloured. People pictured in the images include Tom Shout, Tongariro Tramping Club president and mayor of Raetihi; Alan Bowater; Sue Mains; Jessie Seaman; Bud Seaman; Jack Timo; the Te Wano family; Peter Luke; Jack Williams; Bill Mead; Bruce Davis; Thelma Thornton; Colin Pritchard; Gordon Hunt; Brian Haitana; and Neville, Vera, Brian, Delma, Graham, John, and Colleen Mosen. Several photographs show Neville Mosen and others smoking. Locations include the Mangawhero pools, Mangaturuturu Valley, Tama Lake, Girdlestone Peak, Waipakihi River, Blyth Hut, Mountain Road, the Crater Lake on Mount Ruapehu, and Dawson Falls. The earliest photograph is of a Tongariro Tramping Club group at the Crater Lake in 1932, and the latest are photographs of the Mosen family at Mangaiti Hut in the 1970s. The donor provided descriptions and possible dates for 36 of the prints. These notes are in a separate envelope in the box holding the prints. Title supplied by Library. Arrangement: 36 of the prints were each wrapped in a piece of notepaper, on which the donor had noted the people, locations, and activities shown, and possible dates.
