Description: Colour transparency slides relating to Dr Carol Shiley Willis's service as a medical doctor during the Vietnam War. Photographs taken circa 1970, probably by Willis. Includes photographs of and around the town of Bong Son, including a military convoy, a plane coming into land over rice paddies, local people on roadside (including carrying hay with [Chogi?] stick and a child sitting on a water buffalo), shops and a billiard saloon on the main street, drying rice, and the Lai Gang River with a recently constructed bridge and barbed wire fence along the riverbank. Willis appears in one image (looking at items in a hardware store). Children hanging around Willis's quarters feature in a number of images. Set also includes an image of a malnourished child and the operating theatre at the hospital with bloodied sheets still on the table. Also images of Beechcraft King Air aircraft at Landing Zone English United States Army base, a jeep of shirtless soldiers entering the base through the gate, a "dustoff" medical evacuation helicopter landing. Also includes photographs taken from Beechcraft plane flying over Bong Son area including views of bridge over Lai Gang River and the approach to English base runway. Description: Transparency slides relating to Dr Carol Shiley Willis's service as a medical doctor during the Vietnam War. Photographs taken circa 1970, probably by Willis. Photographs of Bong Son including a haircut ("Hot toc") with "Tom Mc" working on Dave T Glanville and [Peter Harris?], NZSMT hospital buildings and grounds, three portraits of Vietnamese people suffering from "Betel nut" teeth, sentry fort at south end of Lai Gang River, and main street scene with "Buddhist thing" [shrine?]. Aerial photographs feature a helicopter in flight over clouds taken from another aircraft, from an aircraft flying into land at Landing Zone English United States Army base with rice paddies below, and sentry tower at English base. Images of Hoai An and surrounding area include a river water wheel at roadside, soldiers at outdoor arms store [guns, shells?], headquarters building, Red Cross vehicle, children on the main street, and images on the road between Hoai An and Bong Son (a farmer and water buffalos in rice paddies, a man carrying a sack on his head, and a gas station). Description: Transparency slides relating to Dr Carol Shiley Willis's service as a medical doctor during the Vietnam War. Photographs taken circa 1970, probably by Willis. Contains images of military helicopters including a gunship [armed helicopter] being prepared with the loading of rockets, refuelling, and a case of M79 ammunition other weapons placed in the helicopter and a "slick" [UH-1 helicopter used for transporting troops] photographed flying against a hillside from an airborne gunship. Also United States Army Rangers from the Casper Aviation Platoon, one of whom is leading a dog, crossing an airfield with helicopters in the background [Landing Zone English?]. Soldiers identified as "Brad" and "Ochu" appear with the gunship. Photographs also include a number of images from "Ward three" at the hospital at which Willis worked [Bong Son?] with Willis in one picture, a "Hot toc" at work with sewer in the background, two Vietnamese locals carrying items with baskets on carrying poles "[Chogi?] sticks", a metal pig basket on the side of the road, the view from Willis's room, a sampan boat on a river seen through a [jeep?] window (with man and gun silhouetted in foreground), a local funeral procession, a man [Willis?] smoking a pipe, and International House "restaurant" at Quoc Te with Colonel [Aringa?] walking in the foreground.
