Description: Countess Almaviva is present in the scene, which includes a screen, decorative wall panels and a dresser. Figaro is approaching from the wings at stage right. The verso shows another, unidentified set design, possibly for the same production. Accompanied by a label in the artist's hand: '"The marriage of Figaro" by W.A. Mozart / Act II "The Countess's Boudoir" / Scene design by Raymond Boyce for the New Zealand Opera Company / first performance Wellington 1958.' The painting appeared as part of an exhibition of works by Boyce, George Packwood, John Stackhouse and Melvin Day, arranged by the Regional Council of Adult Education, Victoria University of Wellington.
