Description: Folder comprising research material relating to the opera 'Hohepa' (2012) concerning Hōhepa Te Umuroa (Te Ati Haunui-a-Pāpārangi, 1822?-1847). The folder includes copies (some annotated) of research papers, newspaper clippings, ephemera, official records and correspondence. The latter is largely between New Zealand and Australian government officials and relates to the repatriation of Te Umuroa's remains from Maria Island, Tasmania, in 1988. Also contains musical notation of a ruru and typescripts of karakia. Annotation on folder compiled by McLeod reads "First sources of my opera Hohepa... The bulk of the photographs show gannets and the gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers, Hawkes Bay, taken by Joy O'Halloran, 12 October 1946. One photograph shows a ruru (morepork) perched on a branch, dated 13 June 1927, signed R C Lindsay. Events include: Kauraka Kauraka playing a nose flute: a trio, comprising Richard Nunns, Mike Cooper and Elio Martuscheillo, playing in Rome in 2002; the opening of Te Papa, 1998; an image from `Taku Wana', an opera by Helen Fisher and Wi Kuki Kaa showing Mere Boynton singing the opening aria; the launch of `He Waiata Onamata - songs from the past' in 1998.
