Description: Colour slide photographs taken by John Reinder Fijn of events at Waitangi during the visit of Queen Elizabeth II, 6 Feb 1963. Includes images of kuia and kaumatua, kapa haka performers, and spectators [during powhiri?] at Te Tii Marae with the hall Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tents in the background of a number of images. Many kuia wear leaves in their hair and a number are holding handbags. Also contains evening photographs from the Treaty Grounds including a warrior in a black and white kakahu [performing a wero?]. Set originally labelled by Fijn as: "Maori People in front for Meeting house". Original enclosure retained with images. Quantity: 3 colour original transparency/ies strips containing nine images. The first prize was a trip to Milford Sound or a cash prize of 10 pounds stirling. Verso displays an advertisement for Nash's Leather Arcade in Cuba street Wellington, sellington "Wellington's smartest handbags"; five handbags are illustrated. Evening Post, 6 January 1936, Page 14 reports that the winner of the contest was Miss Ivy Parrott, with 6453 votes. The runner up was Miss Matheson with 4605 votes. Two copies held.
