Description: Loose photographs extracted from album (PA1-o-1549). Includes photographs of a hill climbing sports car event, sports car club meeting, Wellington beaches, Wellington suburbs and housing developments, and the construction of a house. Mr Hird was an electrical designer, involved in the development of television, designing radios for Sir Edmund Hillary in Antarctica, and was apparently in radio surveillance in WW2. His father taught at Seatoun school. Mr Hird lived most of his life in the house at Mantell Street. See 'Freedom' newspaper, 25 Nov 1953, p.6 re his involvement in developing television. They include views of eucalyptus trees, lemon and grapfruit trees, their dog "Wee Dug", their 1951 Austin A40 car, a clematis ("Travellers' Joy") and the house. One picture taken in Cambridge shows an old red pillar box; smoke over a swamp fire in the distance; the Rukuhia Swamp; clouds over Pirongia; Waikato landscape and clouds; a young boy with a prize-winning calf; Horneman's farm at Ohaupo; a group identified only by Christian name ( Percy, Lindley, Joyce and Mr Spencer at Rozel), Gubbins oaks at Rozel, and oak blossom. Description: Views of the gardens and trees at Rozel, the forest farm owned by Mac (Frederick Brayshaw McWhannell) and Rhoda McWhannell. They include poplars, eucalyptus trees, a 1951 model Austin A40, sunflowers, lemon trees, Japanese maples, Rhoda McWhannell standing outside with a stormy sky, a row of small trees in the nursery, Judas trees, the back lawn, hydrangeas, views from the porch, an oak on the driveway with cattle in the background, an acacia in bloom, and their dog named "Wee Dug".
