Description: All images taken in the Northland area, at Te Tii Marae, Waitangi, Te Karuwha Parade, Paihia at a major gathering, perhaps in preparation for 1981 Waitangi Day. Ans Westra has focused on small groups and individuals in close-up views. They include a man preparing slices of water melon, a huge bin of whole fruit behind him (frames 1 & 2), also slices of orange with boxes of oranges behind him (frames 3 & 4). In the background men in traditional costume are lined up (frames 2 to 4). Young men, some smoking are seen in frames 5 to 8); and several older Māori men are seen in frames 10 to 12, with one man wearing a tipare (woven headband), identified as Nicky Conrad (Te Aupouri, prominent kaumatua; frames 10 & 11); and another man wearing a korowai (dogtooth cloak) identified as Allan Karena (frame 12).
