Description: Small poster announces a fundraising event at the Art Gallery, advertised similarly in the Christchurch Press of 6 July 1899. A variety of typefaces and decorative motifs is used. The goods on sale included children's clothing, useful woollen goods, dolls, Chinese embroidery, carved work, etc, etc. The bigophone or bigotphone was a popular carnival musical instrument, cheap, noisy and decorative.
