Description: Sampling of memes posted to social media in September 2021, primarily in relation to the COVID-19 Alert Level 4 in Auckland, and changes to COVID-19 alert levels across the motu. Many memes satirise New Zealand politics and politicians. This online content was collected as part of the Library’s rapid response collecting regarding the Covid-19 pandemic and associated lockdowns/alert level changes in Aotearoa New Zealand. Viewpoints reflected in the collection do not represent the views of the Library or its staff. An algorithm chooses one image for display on the Library's website. Aotearoa New Zealand moved to COVID-19 Alert Level 4 nationwide at 11.59 PM on Tuesday 17 August in order to prevent further spread of the highly transmissable delta variant of COVID-19. Northland and Auckland remained at Level 4 while the rest of the country moved to Alert Level 3 at 11.59 pm on Tuesday 31 August 2021. Areas other than Auckland moved to Alert Level 2 at 11:49pm on 7 September. Auckland is scheduled to remain at Alert Level 4 until at least 21 September 2021. Quantity: 140 digital image(s).
