Description: Photographs of roads, public and historic buildings, Wairakei hydro-electricity, and timber processing mills, taken circa 1970s to 1980s, by Margo Mitchell and some by other unidentified photographers. Twenty of the photographs have captions on the back, which discuss the image (including construction details for roads and buildings) and include camera and film used; these images are possibly from a portfolio as part of study. Ten of the photographs have no identifying details. Some of the name details in the captions are mis-spelt. Architect of Holy Trinity, Lyttleton named as Mr G Malliuser is Mr George Mallinson. Description: Comprises slides by Peter Mellor showing the Ellis & Burnand sawmill and tramline at Ongarue. The images were taken in November 1955 during a visit with John Stitchbury to asses the suitability of the site for a visit by the Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Railway and Locomotive Society. Includes views of locomotives, a jigger, the mill office, New Zealand Railways wagons loaded with timber, bridges, rock cuttings in the Mangakahu Stream valley, Goat Creek Viaduct, Mangatukutuku Viaduct, exchange sidings, and Waikoura Camp. Also included are digital scans of Mellor’s photographs and contextual information created by Richard Stratford in 2020. Photographs include buildings in New Zealand (hotels, rural dwellings, Ophir Post & Telegraph Office, the Commercial Bank of Australia in Johnsonville), New York scenes (Off Broadway marquee reading "EXOTIC LADY WRESTLERS", and a truck painted with text "NO RELIGION LIKE VIOLENCE" on side), an accordion player, an unidentified woman sitting with sculpture, and a crowd outside Galleria Ortiz [San Antonio?]. Also includes an image of a cabbage tree, a mountaineering scene, and two images relating to World War Two: 25 Battalion C Company group portrait, 1945; and a destroyed building [Italy, World War Two?], circa 1943 to 1945.
