Description: A sunset view, with a table-shaped rock looming over part of the falls to the right. Several figures on rocks and a path in the foreground dwarfed by the falls. On acquisition by the Library this lithograph was thought to be the work of William Fox. Instead it is the cover illustration for Table Rock Schottisch, piano music by John Cooke, (New York, Jacques and Brother, 1852). Description: Photographs taken in the 1870s, covering a wide range of places, photographers mostly unidentified, and most images with no captions. The first group were taken in an around the Mediterranean, including Gibraltar, but particularly focussing on the Suez Canal. The sequence includes a copy of a montage produced by Hippolyte Arnoux, showing a map of the route of the canal, surrounded by photographs of canal designer Ferdinand de Lesseps and various sites along the route. Other images in this sequence were probably taken by Arnoux who was working in Egypt during this period. The next group of images travel via India (?), to Australia. Views of Melbourne include Government House, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Houses of Parliament, the Scots' Church (in Collins Street), the Post Office, the Town Hall, and the Public Library. Following these is a panorama of Sydney, and views of Tasmania. The New Zealand scenes start with a panorama of Auckland, the Mount Eden residence of G.B. (?, pencilled name undeciphered), and the Auckland Domain). Images further south include Ohinemutu; the Pink and White Terraces; Napier; the Manawatu Gorge; Wellington (with the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel visible in the foreground); Nelson; the wreck of the ship Otago, at Chasland's Mistake; and a number of views in the Dunedin area. Description: Scenes probably from one of the national parks in the United States. The edge of a glacier. A waterfall. A bear. Mountains seen across forest and water. Photographed by Glenn Dolberg in 1946. These transparencies have been retained as examples of early modern colour film. The package that they came in was from the ANSCO Colour Laboratory, Binghampton, New York. The date on the ANSCO seal was 12 August 1946. Glenn Dolberg was Nola Luxford's third husband, and they married in 1959. Glenn had been married prior to this, so the woman in two of the photographs is probably his first wife. Description: Album of photographs collected by Rev G E Mason on a trip around the world in 1885-1886. Comprises photographs of California, Tasmania, Sydney, Ceylon, Egypt and New Zealand. In 1884 the Bishop of Lichfield recieved a request from the bishops of Christchurch and Auckland, New Zealand, to send clergy to conduct missions in their dioceses. To this end he invited Rev G E Mason, and Rev Charles Bodington to do the job. The two clegymen left Liverpool for the United States on the 4th of July 1885, spent a summer in New Zealand, and returned to England in September 1886.
