Description: Six oral history interviews conducted by Linda Hepburn about South Island Rowing Incorporated, a voluntary organisation which operates the Meridian Rowing Centre and rowing course on the shores of Lake Ruataniwha, near Twizel, since its inception. The project records memories of the people involved in the establishment and administration of the Centre and in the history of South Island Rowing. Their interviews also cover their own rowing stories and the history of rowing in the regions of Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland. Interviewees are: Fred Strachan, Neil Burrow, Cliff Buchanan, Pat McQuinn, Ivan Sutherland, and Catherine and Trevor Wilson (joint interview). Project received Award in Oral History funding from Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage in 2017. Title supplied by Library. Most of the elderly women and men are standing up. One woman is holding an empty plate. A woman and man are sitting down in chairs. Refers to the kiwi tradition of 'bring a plate' being under threat at workingmen's and other private clubs because of fears over food poisoning. Lorna Boyd, wife of Bill, was present during the recording and has been included in responses from Bill during the interview.
