Description: On the left, a buddhist priest holding a sun umbrella is being offered food by a woman outside her house in Kandy, Ceylon. The frame of the picture is decorated with flowers of a climber. On the left: The caves near Moulmein, Rangoon. View from inside the cave looking out to the plain below, showing a buddha and stupa at the entrance. The frame is decorated with a sprig of [frangipani?] on the upper lefthandside The left-hand view was published without the square frame and flower decoration as a wood engraving in The last voyage. Annie Brassey, 1887, page 99, without a title. The right-hand view was published as a chromolithograph chapter-heading entitled Rangoon on page 119. Description: Album of photographs taken by various photographers many of whom are unidentified. Photographs are seen on pages 1-31, with pages 32-50 unused. Colombo is shown in the first part of the album, and includes street scenes, the "Old Colombo Lighthouse", the Galle Face Hotel(?), views of outrigger fishing canoes, carts drawn by humped cattle, "padda" boats on a canal, and a group of young Sri Lankan women. The second part of the album contains views of New Zealand, chiefly in the thermal regions with views of Ohinemutu, Hamurana Springs, the Poutuhu Geyser, Waimangu Geyser, the "Fairy bath" at Okoroire and the "Okoroire Natural Bridge Rapids". Description: Album of photographs collected by Rev G E Mason on a trip around the world in 1885-1886. Comprises photographs of California, Tasmania, Sydney, Ceylon, Egypt and New Zealand. In 1884 the Bishop of Lichfield recieved a request from the bishops of Christchurch and Auckland, New Zealand, to send clergy to conduct missions in their dioceses. To this end he invited Rev G E Mason, and Rev Charles Bodington to do the job. The two clegymen left Liverpool for the United States on the 4th of July 1885, spent a summer in New Zealand, and returned to England in September 1886.
