Orthodontist and academic. Born in Stratford, Taranaki, in 1938 to Clyde William and Edna Rose (Murray) Meikle. Resident of United Kingdom since the early 1970s. Attended Auckland Grammar school.
Graduated Bachelor of Dental Surgery (1962), and Doctor of Dental Science (1995) from University of Otago, Dunedin; Master of Science in Denistry (1969) from University of Washington; and Doctor of Philosophy (1976) University of Cambridge.
During his career he has held posts at University British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, 1969-1971; St. John's College, Cambridge University, 1971-1975; Dental Surgery and Eastman Dental Hospital, London, 1977-1992; and Strangeways Research Laboratory, Cambridge, 1975-1995. Since 1992 he has headed the department orthodontics and paediatric dentistry at United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St. Thomas's Hospital, London.
He was awarded the Recipient John Tomes prize in 1992, and became Hunterian professor in 1995.
Author of several books and scientific papers on dentistry and facial reconstruction. Meikle has also published a book about immigration from United Kingdom to New Zealand.
Married Harriet Chapman-Andrews in 1967; children are Katherine Jane and Alastair Murray Scott.
