IndyCar Series (Automobile race)

The IndyCar Series is the premier open-wheel racing series in North America. Established in 1996 under the name Indy Racing League, the name of the organising company. Changes in sponsor over the years resulted in changes in name. From 2000-2003 the series was known as Indy Racing Northern Light Series. The IndyCar Series name was officially adopted in 2003. Circa 2020 the racing series is known as NTT IndyCar Series.

The most well known event is the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race or Indy 500.
