Te Heke Tama Te Uaua (Māori migration)

This heke, possibly also known as Hekenga Tama Te Uaua, followed after other relatives for the Kapiti region about 1832 and was led by the chiefs Te Hau Te Horo, Rangiwaahia, Te Pononga, Te Ito, Te Wharepouri and others. It consisted of the Ngā Motu, Puketapu, Manukorihi, Pukerangiora, Ngāti Kaitangata, Ngāti Rahiri, Ngāti Mutunga, Ngāti Tama and other tribes.

Description: Contains an account of the various heke of Ngati Toa and Te Ati Awa to the Kapiti district between 1820 and 1833, with reference to inter-tribal wars and disputes during this period. Rangipito use's the term "Uruuru-purumu" to describe the 19th century musket used by Maori.
