Description: Inside spread reproduces the poem by Drummer T Black of the 10th Manchester Regiment, "in honour of 'Our New Zealand boys' at the front who created such an intense feeling of enthusiasm and friendship with their splendid patriotism, amongst the Lancashire and other British regiments who met them in Egypt, as to inspire these lines." Front cover shows a New Zealand soldier with a bayonet rifle over his left shoulder, with the Union Jack flag and the Giza pyramids in the background. Description: Collection of photographs from an album compiled by Mrs R G Hosking. The photographs are mostly dated 1914-1918 and relate to World War One. Includes photographs taken in Egypt, England and New Zealand, depicting military personnel, naval ships, scenes at military camps, and the hospital at Brockenhurst, England. Includes portraits of Peter McIntyre Crawford, Douglas Vallance Hosking (husband of R G Hosking), Keith Melvyn Little, and other unidentified subjects. Features two photographs dated April 1924, one of Wellington taken from on board the HMS 'Hood', and another showing HMS 'Hood' on arrival at Wellington Harbour. Also includes images of naval ships NZHS 'Marama', HMAS 'Encounter', and HMNZT No. 8 'Star of India'. A fleet of ships is seen along the horizon of a postcard image captioned 'N.Z. First Contingent Sailing - Passing Island Bay' with the accompanying annotation 'This photo was taken at 4 a.m. as the ships carrying the Main Body were passing Island Bay, Wellington, on October 16, 1914'. Description: Christmas postcard (probably for 1916) shows an illustration of circular military tents on the banks of a canal, likely to be the Suez Canal. with camels and palm trees. The verso has a written message from Andrew Davidson to his mother: "An historical keepsake. Jan 3 1917. Dear Mother, I am sending you this card as a souvenir of a year's work against Turkey. On the top right hand corner can be seen the badges of the regiment with whom I am now working. The Boar's Head badge is the one used by the squadron to whom I am attached. Round the emblem you can see the names of the actions which I have taken part in. Magdhaba which took place on Dec 23rd 1916 has also to be added. Description: An annotated 'Souvenir of Cairo' tourist booklet published by the Cairo PostCard Trust and sent by William James Hamilton to his parents, while he was based at Zeitoun camp, Egypt, in World War I. Contains 32 black and white photographic prints of Cairo city and environs. The annotation in pencil on the backpage of the booklet, consists of one short letter dated Thursday 11 Nov 1915 written by "Will" to his "dear parents". The booklet contains one loose page containing a short letter written in pencil by "Will" to "My Dear Ruby" and dated Friday 12 November 1915, at Zeitoun. The page was placed at the back of the booklet, and appears to be from another copy of a tourist booklet which was sent to "Ruby". New Zealand sapper William James Hamilton served in Egypt during World War I. Quantity: 1 volume(s). Description: Photographic prints collected by Lancely Treadwell comprising: -two group portraits of men in army uniform, relating to Bob Davidson's service during World War I, taken circa 1914 and 1915 by unidentified photographers. One shows a group in Egypt with a pyramid and a sphynx in the background behind the men. -Parade on Courtenay Place/Cambridge Terrace, Wellington, circa 1930, taken by Frank Giles Barker from the site of what is the Embassy Theatre in 2014. One of the floats is a locomotive. The donor said Davidson was from Feilding. The Davidson recorded in the name authority by the archivist is the only Robert Davidson on the Centotaph database that is listed as being from Feilding. He is not identified in the photographs. The name M A Bassett features as an inscription on one of the prints but this name is not known to the donor. Description: Folder contains three postcards sent from Corporal Samuel Charles Gower Downard (Serial No. 10/2826) to his wife, Agnes, and daughter, Ida (referred to as Pixie), at 'Kinross', Standen Street, Karori, Wellington during World War One. The postcards show images of Egypt, including the Tomb of the Khalifs in Cairo, the Kasr-el-Nil bridge and barracks in Cairo, and two women carrying clay pots of water on their heads. Downard provides commentary on the images, and asks after his family in the messages on the postcards. One postcard mentions Napolean Bonaparte. Description: Postcard shows a New Zealand soldier in the Egpytian desert with a pyramid and army tents in the background. He is smiling and looking down at a bottle of Wai-ronga mineral water in the foreground. The verso of the card contains a letter from Adelaide Mullis' brother Bill to Adelaide and to their mother [Elizabeth]. He is writing from France and is in "the best of health"; happy to know that Jim (his and Adelaide's brother) has got over his fever. Wai-Ronga (or sometimes Wairongoa) was said to be "'the only water in Australasia that sparkles and bubbles with its own Natural Gas" (see for example, Grey River Argus, 13 September 1910, page 7). The water came from Wairongoa Springs, North Taieri (See https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/OW18940510.2.54 ) Note also that the same illustration was used on a postcard advertising Thomson Soda; see Eph-A-BEVERAGE-Soft-1915-01 Quantity: 1 colour art print(s). Documents the life and military service of Sergeant Ivan F Moore (Service Number 7/1023), who served with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Egypt and the Balkans during World War One. Volume is illustrated with facsimile reproductions of letters, photographs, postcards, military documents, newspaper cuttings, and printouts from online sources.
