Dewes, Kate, 1953-

New Zealand peace activist, anti-nuclear campaigner, and academic. Born in Hawera in 1953. Prominent in New Zealand's anti nuclear movement of the 1970s and 1980s. She worked as a Professor of Peace Studies at Canterbury University for 20 years, and as co-ordinator of the Peace Foundation Disarmament and Security Centre in Christchurch for 40 years.

She was on the International Steering Committee for the World Court Project from 1986. Served as Director of South Island Regional Office of Aotearoa/New Zealand Peace foundation for over 30 years. Vice-President, International Peace Bureau, 1997-2003, and as the a United Nations disarmament adviser 2009-2013. In 2017 she attended the successful UN negotiations for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Wepaons.

Married retired British Royal Navy commander Robert Green in 1997.
