McKay, Pauline, active 1979-

Chairperson of HART (Halt All Racist Tours) from November 1979 after Trevor Richards stepped down, until 7 December 1981 when John Minto was appointed new chairman.

Active in the YMCA 1970s to 1990s, and worked for the Africa Information centre and the Waitangi Consultancy. Lived in Geneva for 15 years working for the World Council of Churches, International YMCA, and World Health Organisation.

From February 2009, she returned to New Zealand to worked for the Christian World Service (CWS) New Zealand as National Director.

Description: All frames taken in the vicinity of the St George Hotel, Boulcott Street, Wellington. After the announcement in April 1980 that there would be a Springbok rugby tour to New Zealand in 1981 various anti-tour groups such as HART (Halt all Racist Tours) started protesting. The images show groups of people holding placards which include "Token blacks will not do"; "Stop the '81 Tour"; "Craven's rugby not cricket"; "81 Tour another goal for apartheid"; "Racism - Who cares? - [Tours bring $]". The woman wearing dark clothing with long dark hair (on the left in frame 3, and on the right in frame 4) has been identified as Marei Bollinger (later Marei Webster); and a young woman wearing glasses (on the right in frame 3) has been identified as Pauline McKay who was chairperson of HART in 1981.
