Bonnington House (Christchurch, N.Z.)

Italianate sandstone building designed by Thomas Stoddart Lambert and built in 1883 for Bonnington Chemist owned by George Bonnington. Located at 199 High Street, Christchurch. First building in New Zealand to be fitted with the Lamson pneumatic document carrying system. In 1973 department store W Strange and Co acquired the building. By 1930 McKenzie Ltd bought the building. In 1988 the property was damaged by fire, and the two upper floors remained vacant until restoration by KPI Rothschild Property Group in 2007.
