Description: The illustrations and animations in this collection are by comic artist, illustrator and writer, Toby Morris, and microbiologist and science communicator, Dr Siouxsie Wiles. They were created between March 2020 and July 2022, to support the communication of public health mitigation measures during the COVID-19 pandemic for Aotearoa New Zealand. The final animation from August 2022 relates to the Mpox virus. Many of the illustrations and animations in this collection provided messaging around, and explanations of, key concepts such as the COVID-19 “bubble”, which was introduced to ensure that any person-to-person transmission of the COVID-19 virus was limited to within a pre-defined group of people (often families living in the same household) and not allowed to spread further within the community. The collection includes eight animations by Morris and Wiles translated into te reo Māori by Hēmi Kelly. Title supplied by Library. Toby Morris is an Auckland based illustrator, comic artist and writer. He is the author of The Spinoff's non-fiction comic series 'The Side Eye', and won the Voyager award for Cartoonist of the year for 2019. War memorials book, To The Memory (2016) Jock Phillips, original illustrations, by chapter

Date: 1980-1991, 2014-2016

From: Phillips, John Oliver Crompton, 1947- and Maclean, Chris Whitcome, 1952-: Photographs of New Zealand war memorials

Reference: Series-6618

Description: A set of photographs and housing which relate to the layout or design of the book 'To The Memory New Zealand's War Memorials' by Jock Phillips, in particular to the selection of images to be used as illustrations in each chapter of the book. Images are predominantly of New Zealand war memorials located throughout the country which commemorate persons or events in the Musket Wars, the New Zealand Wars, the South African War (Boer War), and World War I and II. Includes some copy photographs depicting historic persons or events which relate to the war memorials. The original housing for the slides, prints, and negatives was labelled with a reference number which relates to the possible order of inclusion in the book. Many slides are annotated by an unidentified hand (probably Jock Phillips or Chris Mclean). The plastic sleeves for the slides have annotated labels on each pocket of the sleeve showing a reference number and a location or sometimes notes on for alternate image. Many of the photographs in this series were published in the book 'To The Memory New Zealand's War Memorials' by Jock Phillips. Potton and Burton, 2016. Record title is transcribed from the original ring binder. Arrangement: Analogue photographs were delivered in a labelled ring binder. The photographs of various formats were then grouped within the ringbinder into sub categories by use of labelled card dividers and filed in plastic sleeves. The sleeves and/or individual slides are annotated with a sequential alpha numeric reference number, and/or a title. The arrangement of each sleeve within the ring binder and of each photograph within a plastic sleeve appears to correspond with the order in which the photographs were to be published in each chapter of the 'To The Memory' book. The original order of the ringbinder, card dividers, and individual photographs in a sleeve has been preserved by the archivist. Digital files were delivered on separate CD and USB objects, mostly within a folder structure with titles that relate to the 'To The Memory' book. The original folder arrangement has been preserved by the Library. Quantity: 164 colour original transparency/ies. 34 b&w copy photographic print(s) including proof sheets. 9 b&w original negative(s) 35mm negative strips; half plate film negative. 3 b&w original photographic print(s). 3 item(s) of photographic ephemera annotated translucent overlays. 1 folder(s) containing card dividers, housing, and papers. 1 Electronic document(s) spreadsheet. 852 digital photograph(s). Physical Description: 35mm colour film transparencies in card or plastic slide mounts; labelled and annotated archival plastic hanging sleeves; papers; office stationery; black and white copy photographs; and black and white film negatives. Transfers: Negatives that were delivered in the same plastic sleeve as related prints have been housed separately for conservation reasons. - - The annotated original plastic sleeve housing for the slides has been separated from the slides and is stored at MS-Papers-12467-04.. Processing information: The photographs were removed from the original ring binder for conservation reasons. Where possible, the original housing of archival standard has been retained in the collection as it bears information pertinent to the image content, format, and the arrangement of the photographs. However the photographs that were in the original housing have been rehoused so they could be stored in appropriate conditions.
