Description: One photograph album, taken between 1914 and 1916, chiefly relating to Vincent John Stichbury's service during World War I. Includes images taken at Gallipoli and also during time spent in military hospitals in England. Images nearly all taken by Stichbury with his captions in the album. Album compiled by Stichbury. Seventy nine of the prints have corresponding negatives, with six negatives of Gallipoli. Images of England include Longleat Hospital, hospital at Walton-on-Thames (captioned No 2 NZ General Hospital), Hornchurch Hospital, rugby games of New Zealand vs other hospital groups, London Zoo and other sights around London area. Captions do not include names of individuals. Other - Some prints loose and in envelope in front of album; evidence of some prints having been removed prior to deposit with the Library Relationship complexity - The image at the beginning of the album of men standing in front of a pyramid and a sphynx, is also at PAColl-10230-1. Description: Folder contains correspondence from Stichbury home to his family during World War One. Includes letters to his parents (William and Hannah Stichbury), sisters (Myrtle, Eva and Elsa Stichbury) and brothers (Charlie, Martin and Tim [sic] Stichbury). Letters detail training in Zeitoun Camp and departure to Gallipoli via Port Mudros. Further letters detail the landing at ANZAC Cove 25 Apr 1915 and subsequent fighting with the Turkish Army. Stichbury wounded in action on 8 May 1915. Also includes letter to Mrs Stichbury from a family friend relating to Vincent Stichbury's injuries at Gallipoli. Further correspondence relates to Stichbury's recuperation in Malta and return to Gallipoli in August 1915 with a promotion to sergeant. Much of the correspondence relates to domestic family events back home in New Zealand and other family members involved fighting in the War. During Oct 1915 Stichbury falls ill with enteric sickness and is moved out to Lemnos, then onto Warminster in England to recover. Quantity: 1 folder(s).
