Peloha (Havelock North, N.Z)

Built in 1904 for John Holdsworth and his wife Margaret Chambers at the base of Te Mata Peak, Havelock North. Her family were prominent Quakers. The house was named Swarthmoor after the English Quaker Headquaters. It later belonged to a relation by marriage Walter L C McLean in the 1930s. Was later bought by Herbert Sutcliffe from McLean's estate, renamed 'Peloha' and used as a base for his School of Radiant Living. In the late 1980s it was sold to Weleda, makers of herbal and homeopathic medicines in the Steiner tradition.
