National body representing Maori birthing, operating from 1993, and sometimes referred to as Nga Maia o Aotearoa me Te Waipounamu. Its kaupapa focused on Mama, Pepi, Whanau and promoting Matauranga Maori in pregnancy and childbirth. Its whakatauaki reflected the commitment: “Ki te whakaohooho i te Mauri o nga Tikanga o ia whânau o tena o tena”
