Wharenui at Ngātira marae, Ngatira, South Waikato District. Name 'Te Tikanga' taken from file print APG-1042-1/2. Named 'Te Tikanga Ki Te Atua' in 'Maori Meeting Houses of the North Island' by John C M Cresswell, 1977, page 62. Name corrected to "Te Tikanga a Tawhiao" according to information from Rehutai O'Brien in 1999. First built in 1887, now situated in its second site on Whaiti Kuranui Whenua (Ngatira). "The Tupuna Whenua was so named because the centre post figure, who was named Nga Opetaua after a famous fighting chief, did not have a moko. Te Arikinui Tawhiao then had his moko carved on this figure" Information from Vincent K Amorupiu (AT13/12/4 7.5.92)
