Born in Masterton in 1916. Son of George Walter Barr and Ethel May Barr, he attended Wairarapa District High School. Married Eileen Joan Smith in Masterton, 1941. Served as President of the Wairarapa branch of the NZ Founders Society, President of the Lions Pakeke Club in Masterton, and Treasurer of the Masterton Bowling Club.Long-serving member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand.

Description: Photograph of large wooden hotel with the name Thomas Waldin near the entrance, circa 1860s, taken by an unknown photographer. A horse and cart, and a family group stand outside the entrance. This photograph was identified as 'Pakuratahi Hotel 1866" at accession, but does not match other images of this hotel.
