Piner, Edward, 1893-1952

Son of Charles and Annie (Ann Isabel) Piner of Annat, Canterbury. He was a riflemen in B Company of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 1st Battalion, during World War I. Service number 23/561. He was transferred, with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, to Rangiotu in 1915, when Trentham Camp had to be evacuated due to flooding. His sister was Annie Ada Helena Piner, known as Ada.

Description: Photographic postcard shows a large collection of circular tents pitched at Rangiotu for the military training of soldiers for World War I. The verso contains a message from Rifleman E Piner (Edward Piner, a rifleman with B Company of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 1st Battalion) to his sister Ada.
