A pā situated on high cliffs above Waitara River, Taranaki, about 8 km from the river mouth. Occupied by the Pukerangiora hapu of Te Atiawa in the early 1800s. In 1821 a war party was beseiged at the pā by Te Atiawa, who nicknamed the pā Raihe Poaka (or the pig sty). In 1831, the Waikato forces besiged the pā and as the Te Atiawa people escaped, they were killed. The pā was also a site of battle between Maori and colonial forces during the First (1860-1861) and Second (1863-1866) Taranaki wars. A fortification called Te Arei Pā was erected to protect Puekrangiora Pā.
Since 1910, the reminder of the pā site was deemed a Crown reserve, called Pukerangiora Pā Historic Reserve.
